KUALA LUMPUR, August 20, 2025 – Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister, Datuk Ewon Benedick, has proposed that the Digital Kitchen initiative be institutionalised as a cooperative to ensure its sustainability.

Speaking at the launch of Kampung Limau Digital Kitchen, Ewon said his ministry, through the Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM), is ready to assist in the formation of a Digital Kitchen Cooperative, which could serve as a mentor to other kitchens.
Launched by Pepper Labs, Digital Kitchens empower women in urban housing communities to generate income through cooking skills supported by digital platforms. To date, 15 kitchens have been set up across the Klang Valley, recording over RM1.2 million in cumulative sales since 2024.

Ewon highlighted that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has allocated funds under Budget 2025 to establish 25 more Digital Kitchens nationwide. He said government agencies and private sector partners such as Maxis, Brahim’s, Media Prima and PPB Group are also supporting the initiative.
“Digital Kitchen is not just a project, but a symbol of hope for single mothers, youth and housewives to build sustainable livelihoods,” Ewon said.
