According to Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, Secretary-General of KPKM, Malaysia’s food stockpile particularly rice reserves, is sufficient to meet national demand for five to seven months, even in the event of severe floods or logistical challenges in affected regions such as Kelantan and Terengganu.

To enhance preparedness, KPKM has utilised RM17 million from the RM20 million allocation dedicated to flood-drain maintenance in flood-prone areas, ensuring that essential infrastructure remains functional throughout the monsoon period. States that are less affected by flooding have also been mobilised to provide support to those facing shortages, maintaining a balanced distribution of food supplies nationwide.

In addition, KPKM is preparing post-flood assistance programmes to help affected farmers resume agricultural activities quickly. These include promoting small-scale, fast-yield farming initiatives such as chilli cultivation in polybags, which require minimal land and deliver quicker returns.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening food resilience and ensuring continuous access to safe and sufficient food, even under challenging weather conditions reflecting Malaysia’s ongoing focus on agricultural sustainability and community well-being.
